What are Cork Board Sheets Used For?
These are very versatile products that can be useful and serve different purposes across various contexts.
For example, some people use them for crafting personalised pin boards where they can organise reminders and photos. But they are also a very popular and environmentally friendly solution for thermal and acoustic insulation.
They can be typically found in offices and schools in the form of bulletin boards for educational materials and announcements. And although the office may not be everybody’s idea of a delightful spot, the truth is that their natural colour and texture can add a dose of warmth and charm to any space.
What are the Different Types of Cork Sheets?
Features such as thickness, colour and grain vary, giving you plenty of options.
The colour can range from light, natural tones, to black, depending on the type of cork and its processing.
The grain—from fine, to medium, to coarse—determines the cork’s appearance and texture. Finer grains mean a smoother surface, which is more suited for detailed work or display.
Thickness is another factor you should take into account. Cork sheets are available in different depths, to suit different applications, from thin and flexible for craft projects, to thicker and more durable options, which are better if your goal is to insulate a room.
What is the Best Thickness for a Cork Board Sheet?
That will simply depend on its intended use.
For decorative pin boards and notice boards, thinner sheets, from 6mm to 8mm, are perfectly adequate. These provide enough depth for pins and tacks, without excessive bulk.
If you intend to use them for insulation, thicker sheets, such as 15mm, are more effective, offering greater capacity to absorb sound and retain heat. A thick cork board sheet will also be more suitable for a bulletin board, for example.
